Romelu Lukaku scored his first ever Chelsea goal, almost a decade after his debut, as Thomas Tuchel's men outplayed the Gunners at Emirates Stadium.
Lukaku, who saw acrion at Chelsea as a teenager, started at after his £97.5-million signing from Serie A outfit Inter Milan.
His brilliant plays caused Arsenal problems all game. The Belgian gave Chelsea the lead in the 19th from close range off a pass from Reece James.
James made it 2-0 in the 35th as he slammed the ball into the roof of the net from Mason Mount's pass.
City have beaten the Gunners in their last eight league meetings, the latest when they eked out a 1-0 win at Emirates Stadium. In their last duel at Etihad Stadium, City edged Arsenal also by the same scoreline.
