Defending champions Bayern Munich host Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinals tie. Predictions and odds for this Bayern Munich versus PSG match to be played at the Allianz Arena are available.
Bayern will troop to this match minus star striker Robert Lewandowski who was ruled out after spraining ligaments in his right knee. He will also miss the second leg.
The Polish player has scored in 10 of his 13 games in the CL under Hans-Dieter Flick, with his 15 goals under Flick being the most of any player in the competition since the manager called the shots in November 2019.
This will be a repeat of last year’s final won by Bayern 1-0. Kingsley Coman’s 59th-minute goal lifted Bayern to the victory.
In pulling through this year, the German side advanced after taming Lazio 62 on aggregate whilst PSG made it past Barcelona 5-2 on aggregate.
Before this encounter, Bayern tamed hosts RB Leipzig 2-0 to move closer to a ninth straight title in the Bundesliga. PSG, meanwhile, were beaten 1-0 by visiting Lille as the latter moved atop the standings in Ligue 1.
10th MEETING
This will be the 10th CL meeting between Bayern and PSG (four Munich wins, five Paris wins previously) and only the second in the knockout phase, after last season’s final.
Bayern have only lost more CL matches against Real Madrid (10) than PSG (5), while Paris’ five wins against Munich are their most against any opponent in the competition.
Also, the German giants have won their last three home CL games against PSG, since losing 1-0 in their first home game in November 1994 at the OIympiastadion, with George Weah netting the winner.
Bayern are also unbeaten in their last 19 games in the CL (18 wins, 1 draw)) and could become only the second team in the competition’s history to go 20 consecutive games without losing, after Manchester United (25 between 2007 and 2009).
For PSG, this is the third time they have drawn the reigning champions of the CL in the knockout stages, losing both legs on both previous occasions -- the 1994-95 semi-final against AC Milan and 2017-18 last 16 against Real Madrid.
Kylian Mbappe and Neymar are expected to carry the load for PSG. Mbappé has been directly involved in 35 goals in 33 games for PSG in the tournament(19 goals, 16 assists), while he has scored six in seven games in the competition this campaign.
