The House says...
Lazio went to Inter and got beaten 3-1, they then followed that up with a narrow 1-0 win at Home againt Sampdoria. On to the Champions League, they finished the group stage on 2nd place behind Dortmund. They were unbeaten in that span but drew 4 times out of 6. They could not ask for a better opponents than the defending champions. Well, better for us fans, but worse for them.
Bayern Munich are winless in 2 games! Shocking right. They drew to Arminia Bielefeld 3-3, then followed that up with a 2-1 loss against Frankfurt that did not even feature Andre Silva. Yes, they are winless in their last 2 matches, but I don't think there's a major concern within the club. They just have a long list of injuries coupled with players who recently tested positive in COVID-19 such as Muller. That being said, they have to play really well against a very good Lazio team.
It was 2 week ago when Bayern won the FIFA Club World Cup, then they failed to win in 2 successive games after that. It can be attributed to fatigue, but this is the Champions League where Bayern is crashing every opponents since last year. They may be missing some key players, but I think the defending champions still has enough firepower to come up with a win in the first leg against Lazio. I am backing Bayern.

Defending champions Bayern Munich aim to get the upper hand in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie when they visit Lazio. Predictions and odds for this Lazio versus Bayern Munich match to be played at Stadio Olmpico are available.

This will be the teams’ first encountet in UEFA competition.

Bayern advanced to the last 16 after ruling Group C unbeaten in six games, posting five wins and one draw.

Lazio progressed as Group F runners-up with two wins and four draws.

VICTORY OVER PSG

Bayern won last year’s title after edging Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 at Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal to become the first European Cup winners to win all their matches during the tournament. They also bagged their sixth CL trophy.

The holders are nearly two years without a loss in the CL, winning 16 and drawing one since defeat by Liverpool in the 2018-19 round-of-16 second leg.

The Munich outfit became only the seventh team, and first from Germany, to win all six games in the CL group stage last season.

This is Bayern's 24th CL campaign, fewer only than Barcelona and Real Madrid (both 25).

Kings of Germany football for a record 30th time last season, with a record eighth successive Bundesliga title, Bayern have reached the CL quarter-finals or better in eight of the last nine seasons, the exception their defeat by eventual champions Liverpool in the 2018-19 last 16.

Prior to meeting Lazio, Bayern went down in defeat 2-1 at Eintracht Frankfurt but kept the lead in the Bundesliga.

Lazio will have their hands full against Bayern who will be led by the prolific scorer Robert Lewandowski and a host of stars such as Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich.

TOP SCORER

Lewandowski finished as the top scorer in the 2019-20 CL with 15 goals, two shy of Cristiano Ronaldo's competition record of 17 for Real Madrid in 2013-14. The goal he scored against Salzburg on Matchday 4 this season was his 71st in the CL, moving him tiedl with Raúl González in joint third in the competition's all-time scoring list.

The Italians, who will be in their first taste of the knockout rounds in 21 years,  will have Ciro Immobile as main attacker.

This is Lazio's sixth CL campaign. During their most recent appearance, in 2007-08, they wound up fourth in their section having tallied up only five points from six games. Their previous appearances in the competition all came between 1999 and 2004.

Lazio's record in two-legged ties against German clubs is 2-2 (win-loss).

Before meeting Bayern, Lazio tamed visiting Sampdoria 1-0 in the Serie A to rebound from a 3-1 loss at Internazionale.
