The House says...
Being in a group with world champions France and European champions Portugal, it will always be a tough task for Croatia to progress in their group. However, as runners-up in World Cup, it's still a little disappointing to get just 3 points out of the possible 15. As things stand, Croatia and Sweden are level on points, head-to-head record, and goal difference, but Croatia are currently sitting above Sweden due to superior number of goals scored.
Portugal hosted France in their last match and was beaten by the world champions 1-0 thanks to a Kante goal. With that loss, Portugal have missed out on the opportunity to defend their title. Even with a Portugal win and a France loss in the last game, Portugal can no longer chase France due to the latter's superior head-to-head record. As such, Portugal realistically have nothing to play and a change in lineup is highly possible.
Croatia's goal is to win so as not to relegated to League B. On the other hand, Portugal have a little to play for. That being said, Fernando Santos and his men will no doubt still want to win. Their reverse fixture saw Portugal easily beating Croatia 4-1. Change of lineup is possible, but Crisitano Ronaldo might stay especially when he's chasing for the international record.  Moreover, Croatia have just been disappointing in this campaign, so I still expect Portugal to win in this match.

Deposed champions Portugal face hosts Croatia on the crucial last day of Group 3 action in League A of the Nations League. Predictions and odds for this Croatia versus Portugal match to be played at Stadion Poljud are available.

In their last meeting, Portugal dumped visiting Croatia 4-1 to start their group-stage bid.

In their latest league game though, Portugal were beaten by visiting France 1-0 as Les Bleus secured a berth in the finals set for next year.

France have 13 points and are three points ahead of second placers Portugal. Le Bleus sealed qualification with a better head-to-head record against the Portuguese.

N'Golo Kante scored the winning goal for France in the 53rd minute.

Kante, back in the starting XI after coming on as a substitute in the friendly defeat to Finland, struck from close range in the second half.

Anthony Martial had earlier headed on to the crossbar and Portugal defender Jose Fonte also found the post in the second half.

RONALDO FLUBBS CHANCE

Cristiano Ronaldo, who remains seven behind Iran legend Ali Daei's all-time international goals record, was a threat as always but he headed his best chance to score over the bar in the first half.

Ronaldo also set up substitute Joao Moutinho late in the second half but the Wolves midfielder's powerful shot was well saved by France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Portugal will have Ronaldo as usual to provide spark and he will also get ample support from Diogo Jota, Joao Felix and Bernardo Silva amongst others.

Croatia have been hampered by the absence of key players Ante Rebic and Andrej Kramaric, leaving much workload on veterans Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic and Mateo Kovacic.

The Croats lost at Sweden 2-1 in their last game and left a battle for relegation with Sweden. Croatia are third in the group with three points, ahead on goal difference to fourth placers Sweden.

Under the format, in the top league (League A), the winners of the four groups go on to play in the finals, with two semi-finals, one third and fourth place decider, and one final to decide which team becomes the champion.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

Starting in 2020-21, each group winner (there are four groups in Leagues A, B, and C, and two groups in League D) except for League A, who will go on to play in the finals, is automatically promoted to the next higher league for the next tournament.

Each team placing last in its group in the Leagues A and B is automatically relegated to the next lower league; as League C has four groups while League D has only two, the two League C teams that are to be relegated are determined by play-outs beginning in March 2022.
