Arsenal Gets Jorginho as Third Signing for January
The Premier League leaders snared Jorginho as their third signing of the January window.
The Gunners sealed a £12-million deal with Chelsea on Tuesday to sign the Italy midfielder.
Jorgino, 31, was born in Brazil but moved to Italy at the age of 15 and chose to see action for the Azzurri at the international level.
He joined Chelsea from Napoli in 2018 and is now in the final six months of his contract at Stamford Bridge.
Before him, the Gunners previously bought Poland defender Jakub Kiwior from Spezia for 20 million euros (£17.6m) and Belgium striker Leandro Trossard, who moved from Brighton for £21 million.
18-MONTH DEAL
Jorginho is set to undergo a medical before signing an 18-month deal with Arsenal with the option of a further year.
The Gunners shifted their focus to Jorginho after having two bids turned down by Brighton for Moises Caicedo.
According to Brighton, Caicedo is not for sale, and it now appears the Ecuadorian midfielder will remain at the club after the 11 p.m. deadline.
Mikel Arteta's side is five points clear at the top of the Premier League, with a game in hand on the sides immediately behind them. They have 50 points after 19 games, while the closest pursuers, holders Manchester City (20 games), have 45.
29 GOALS
Jorginho has netted 29 goals in 213 appearances for the Blues. He won the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.
He has 46 caps for Azzurri and was part of the Italy squad that beat England to win Euro 2020 at Wembley in July 2021.
The Gunners, unbeaten in their last 13 games in the Premier League, visit Everton next on February 4. They head into the game after a 1-0 loss at Manchester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
