Is Bielsa the One to Replace Lampard?

Marcelo Bielsa is said to be the one who will take over as manager at Everton.

Reports on Thursday said the former Leeds manager has arrived in London to hold talks with the Toffees’ top honchos.

The 67-year-old Argentine, reports added, is on the top of the list of Everton owner Farhad Moshiri, a British-Iranian businessman based in Monaco.

But another contender has emerged to take the hot seat. He is Sean Dyche, who was sacked by Burney last April.

Everton said they hope to have a new manager by the weekend.

HIGH-TEMPO STYLE

Bielsa is known for his trademark high-tempo style of football, and reports said there are questions about whether the Toffees can adapt to it.

The Argentine was reported to have commented that the present lineup of Everton players is too slow for his brand of football.

But now that he is in England, there is still interest on both sides, even as pressure mounts on Moshiri following a protest against the board from the faithful of Everton.

Dyche is also in the thick of discussions.

Both Dyche and Bielsa won promotions to the Premier League with Burnley and Leeds, respectively. Should anyone get hired, their immediate priority is to preserve Everton’s status in the Premier League.

One of the initial leading candidates, Ralph Hasenhuttl, is said to be not keen on the position.

OTHER CANDIDATES

Aside from Bielsa and Dyche, Sam Allardyce, Wayne Rooney, and Davide Ancelotti (son of Carlo) have all been reported as candidates to take Lampard’s place.

Should Everton hire a new manager by the weekend, they would have a week to work with the players before they host Premier League leaders Arsenal next Saturday.

Everton fired Lampard after last Saturday's 2-0 defeat at West Ham left them 19th in the table with only three wins and 15 points from 20 matches.
