Haaland’s Goal-Hunting Prowess on Display Again
Erling Haaland was on fire again for Manchester City over the weekend.
The striker from Norway posted his fourth hat-trick for the defending champions to power them past Wolverhampton 3-0 in the Premier League.
It also brought his goal haul for the season to 31 in all competitions.
Give him a chance and he will pounce on it. Once he ended his three-match drought in their 4-2 win over Tottenham before facing the Wolves, Haaland could not be stopped.
He single-handedly destroyed the Wolves in a 12-minute binge on either side of half-time.
First, he initially rose to head home Kevin de Bruyne's cross to put the hosts ahead up in the 40th minute.
Second, he drove home a penalty in the 50th after Ilkay Gundogan was fouled by Wolves skipper Ruben Neves
And third, he completed the hat trick after getting a feed from Riyad Mahrez.
So, Haaland has now knocked in 25 goals in City's first 20 Premier League games. That is five more than Luis Suarez scored in 2013-14, the previous highest figure at this juncture of the season.
The Norwegian striker's current total would have been enough to earn him the Golden Boot with his current total in more than half of the 30 campaigns since the English top-tier tournament was renamed in 1992.
Moreover, Haaland has also already scored as many Premier League hat-tricks as Mo Salah, and a third of Sergio Aguero's record 12, which the Argentine did during his brilliant 10 years with City.
Alan Shearer is the only player so far who has scored more Premier League hat-tricks in a single season, with five.
Haaland’s thirst for a goal can be traced to his desire to win more championships. His last league title was three years ago in Austria and his last trophy was the German Cup while playing for Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
Pep Guardiola is one lucky manager to have a player of Haaland's caliber. Seeing the latter has done a wonderful job, Guardiola gave him a well-deserved rest and replaced him with Julian Alvarez in the 61st.
At the halfway mark of the season, City (20 games) has 45 points and is five points behind leaders Arsenal (19 games).
Both sides will meet at Etihad Stadium in an interesting duel in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
And the chase in the Premier League continues when City tackle hosts Tottenham Hotspur on February 6.
Can Spurs stop the rampaging Haaland?
